Reclaiming this SPACE

Alright, I know. I have been slacking. I have allowed this blog to go the way of so many others...into oblivian...no Mike Tyson...not Bolivia...but hey, wait...i was there too! In La Paz, in November/December 2005, just before the historic election of Evo Morales - during a very tense political campaign. I traveled with Ani De La Quintana and met her family. I conducted interviews - especially Julio Sanjines - the former Bolivian Ambassador to the US and a General in the Bolivian Navy; and the man who helped to found the ALT - the institution that Peru and Bolivia created to jointly manage the water resources of Lake Titicaca. Spent some time up at the lake, the highest major lake in the world at over 14,000 elevation. Also got to tour the grounds of Tiajuanacu, the Pre-Incan civilization that ruled this part of the Andes. While there, we helped an archealogical team pull into place the more then 2 ton cornerstone of the pyramid they were excavating. This trip - which you see photos of below - eventually led to the writing of the following paper, "Environmental Peacebuilding: Extending the Collaboration Framework - Lake Titicaca - A Case Study: Peru & Bolivia." which was presented at the

International Peace Parks Conference in Glacier Waterton International Peace Park (between US and Canada) on September 12, 2007. The paper was one of 14 selected to be published in an edited volume by Calgary University Press, due to go to print in Summer 2009.

In the mean time I have had several other adventures - from a 30 day wilderness trek with NOLS to be certified as an Outdoor Educator with Wilderness First Responder medical training - to a 3 month stint in the Balkans Peace Park managing the summer programme and trekking through Albania, Kosovo and Montenegro - to a 5 day solo on the Appalachian Trail for my 30th birthday. These stories and others, from my meanderings around this earth will be shared in this space as I transcribe and embellish upon journal entries; and post photos i think are worthy. I hope they inspire others to travel, and to share the expereinces that imprint meaning on your life. Enjoy reading and please feel free to link to and share these posts with your friends and families.
